Owlet’s Dream Sock measures what it is designed to measure. A global study with data from over one million infants, analysed by Owlet, shows results consistent with academic research.
“A great deal happens during a baby’s first period of life, and thanks to Owlet Dream Sock, parents can follow their infant’s sleep development in a safe way,” says Said Saharkhiz, CEO of IBP Scandinavia, Owlet’s Nordic distributor.
Owlet develops smart solutions for infant monitoring in the home. Its best-selling product, Owlet Dream Sock, has by 2025 been able to collect data globally from 1.2 million infants’ sleep. In total, that amounts to nearly 900 million hours of registered sleep. The results are presented in a report and provide a broad picture of how sleep patterns develop early in life.
“The purpose of the study and the report is to help parents understand what is actually normal in a child’s development.”
The study’s results align well with what the science says. Last year, a research compilation was published, Maturation of infant sleep during the first 6 months of life: a mini-scoping review by Gilchrist et al. (2025), in which 35 research findings on infant sleep were reported. In both Owlet’s study and the scientific review, the results show that infants’ sleep decreases during the first six months and that sleep gradually becomes more consistent and stable.
“The fact that data from Owlet Dream Sock is consistent with what established research reports confirms that Owlet Dream Sock measures what it is designed to measure.”
Owlet’s analysis shows that routines around bedtime and waking are often established within the first six months. During the same period, the longest continuous stretch of night-time sleep increases significantly, from around four hours at the newborn stage to up to nine hours by around eight months of age. At the same time, night-time awakenings gradually decrease, which is also reported in the scientific literature as a natural part of the maturation process.
“By using Owlet Dream Sock, parents gain greater insight into their child’s development and thereby a better understanding of how sleep changes over time. This provides increased confidence and hopefully better sleep for parents too,” says Said Saharkhiz.
